Museum Journey through the history of pencils and pencil making, with indepth
information on graphite mining in Borrowdal, machinery displays, brass rubbings,

explore the wonders of a working silk mill as it was in the 1930's. The Silk

collection is the largest collection of political material in Britain, spanning
working people’s demand for a better world to organisations that represented
them. The objects are hugely varied from from trade union and political banners,

company was formed to respond to the boom in the cotton trade and the engine
house was built in a separate building. Today we have the only fully working
cotton mill engines with their original steam plant. Come and see a range of
