Afternoon Tea for Two at The White Swan Hotel 10745374

We were bought this gift for Christmas and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The service was amazing and the waiter was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. The afternoon tea was one of the best we have had. Everything was very fresh and beautifully displayed and with an endless supply of coffee or tea. Excellent.

but it wasn't. Sitting at the back of a bar on the only table with a tablecloth. Felt really odd. Couldn't take photo because light was too dim. Table next to us was very close and cluttered with dirty dishes. Lady sitting there was painting her nails. Teapot stainless steel was stained and scratched - well past its best, saucer under my cup was chipped, china tired. Couldn't wait to eat up and leave. Pity because the sandwiches were very tasty, scones light but impossible to eat the banana mouse in a glass unless you use the handle of your spoon! Try it chef!

My mother has been to this venue previously which is located in Alnwick a traditional Northumbria town with famous castle and gardens. The hotel is in character for the area and the restaurant /tea room was made it the afternoon more special. We had the deluxe afternoon tea with a choice of two types of sandwiches each, scones and home made fancies, all of which washed down with as much tea and coffee as we wanted. Staff were very attentive and looked after us very well. Would recommend this venue for anybody looking for a treat and maybe a short stay as the hotel had much more character than the branded ones we normally stay in. Our thanks to the White Swan for an enjoyable afternoon.
