Over the bank holiday weekend, Muncaster returns to Tudor times with the Red Wyvern re-enactment society. Think history is dusty and boring? Think again; Medieval Muncaster brings the past to life with enthusiastic and knowledgeable re-enacters from the time of the Wars of the Roses.

With a scenario built around Muncaster’s place in the history of these times, find out how men were armed, go to Knight School, watch a siege re-enactment and find out what daily life was like for our ancestors from this period. With knowledgeable and enthusiastic participants setting up their camp on the Castle lawns, this event runs over the three days of the August bank holiday weekend.

Standard general admittance charges apply, free entry to Friends of Muncaster.

2016 marks the tercentenary of the birth of one of England's greatest landscape designers, Lancelot "Capability" Brown. This is being celebrated at Brownian sites across the country with a series of events. Brown developed a small scheme for the central area of Hatfield Forest and we will be marking this in August.

Big Brown Bash
On Wed 31 Aug, between 10.00 and 16.00, we will be holding a "Big Brown Bash". All are welcome.
The banks of the Decoy Lake and island within it have become overgrown with woody vegetation, making it difficult to appreciate this important Brownian legacy. Come along and help restore this historic area. The Big Brown Bash is a hands-on scrub clearance day.

Free event, no need to book.

Avast, ye landlubbers! With the Black Heart securely moored at Flamingo Land, you can enjoy our swashbuckling new live show featuring breathtaking fight scenes and acts of the darkest skulduggery!

Pirates of Zanzibar tells the story of a crew descended from the infamous Spice Pirates of 1779, when spices were the most valuable items in the world. After reaching the East African Coast, the Spice Pirates invaded the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar, which became the 'black heart' of their evil empire.

So, come alongside The Black Heart at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm each day to hear Captain Plunder's tales of the high seas, while his crew bring their spice stealing stories vividly to life. And, for those brave enough to meet our spice pirates, they'll be out and about scouting for plunder around Metropolis from 10:00am each day. We're sure mischief and mayhem will prevail!
