More about The Glass Menagerie - Alexandra Palace
The Glass Menagerie was written by Tennessee Williams in 1944, and reflects his life in an autobiographical way. The play has been adapted for the stage and has received tremendous success globally. The Rose Theatre, Alexandra Palace Theatre, and Belgrade Theatre production in association with the Royal Exchange Theatre, is bringing the play back for a limited run.
Revolving around a single family, each member's complexities and realities are portrayed in an emotional and realistic way. Tom withdraws from his home life and covers up his real life with movies and cigarettes. Laura retreats within herself using her love for records and collection of glass animals. Meanwhile, their mother lives in a bubble and dreams of a better life for her children, far away from their current existence. However, one day, Tom brings a potential suitor for Laura home, and their mother finally finds a way out of the nightmare they have been living in.
The play explores how family ties can bind a family, and questions whether blood is really thicker than water.
